Commission – ‘Dish’ hat

This hat was inspired by the styles of the turn of the century , which I'm sure we are all familiar with now thanks to the fabulous Downton Abbey! It later resurfaced (slightly stylised) in the 1940's and was referred to as a 'Doll' hat... due to its non head sized crown making it look like it was made for a doll!
My interpretation of this style was commissioned for a wedding guest.
The Dish shaped upturned brim and small crown have been covered in a luxurious black silk velvet, they back of which has an overlay of a heavy authentic Victorian lace, making a real feature of the swooping brim.
The crown has then been adorned with fully stripped spadona, black silk roses, a lovely little vintage birdie with sequined breast and to finish off a scattering of jet beaded leaves......just for a touch of sparkle!

An overall striking piece and a joy to make!
